What counts as a professional inbox?

Any inbox on a custom or organizational domain, like a company address or workspace email. Consumer addresses like gmail.com, icloud.com, and outlook.com are always free.

Is there a free trial for Pro?

The free tier is fully functional. You only need Pro for professional inboxes, unlimited custom rules, and Reputation Shield.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Monthly and annual subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from your Stripe billing portal. Your Pro access continues through the end of the paid period.

What is Reputation Shield?

Reputation Shield layers public threat intelligence (known spam infrastructure, phishing domains, disposable addresses) on top of local AI filtering for an extra layer of defense.

Is Premail a plugin or extension for my email app?

No. Premail is a standalone companion app that runs in the background on your computer. It works alongside whatever email client you already use, so there is nothing to install inside Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail.

Which email clients does Premail work with?

All of them. Apple Mail, Gmail in the browser, Outlook desktop, Thunderbird, Spark, Superhuman, anything. Premail acts on your inbox directly, so it does not matter which app you use to read mail.

Will I see emails in my inbox before Premail handles them?

Usually no. Most of the time Premail acts on a message before your email client downloads it. Occasionally your client gets there first and you might see a message appear for a moment before it disappears. Either way, the end result is the same.

Does Premail send my email to the cloud?

No, Premail has no cloud servers processing your private data. If you use Ollama on your machine, everything stays on your machine. However, if you use your Anthropic or OpenAI key, those AI requests will go to their respective servers, but Premail never sees them.

Do Anthropic and OpenAI cost extra?

Yes, and that cost goes to them, not us. Premail is bring-your-own-key for AI: you paste your Anthropic or OpenAI API key, and they bill you for usage. With the default models (Claude Haiku or GPT-4o Mini), expect roughly $0.01 per 1,000 emails classified, which is typically pennies per month. We do this so your messages go straight from your computer to the model, with no Premail server in the middle.

How do I avoid paying for AI usage?

Use Ollama. It runs models locally on your computer, so there is no API key, no usage cost, and nothing leaves your computer. We recommend the qwen3 model for best results. Quality and speed depend on your hardware and the model you pick.

What is the Lifetime license?

Pay once and get Pro access to the downloaded app. The license covers the desktop software. Any future cloud features we might release will be offered as an add-on. This early-adopter price will not last.

Does Premail update itself?

Yes. Premail checks for new versions in the background and shows a quiet Update button instead of an interrupting pop-up. Click it and Premail downloads the new version, verifies its signature, installs it, and relaunches in place, so there is nothing to reinstall. (On Linux .deb and .rpm installs, where in-app updates are not supported, the button takes you to the download page instead.)
