Custom Rules
Built-in categories cover common cases, but your inbox has its own ecosystem of chaos. Custom rules let you describe in plain English what you want to happen, and the AI evaluates whether it applies.
Examples of things that work as custom rules:
- Archive any appointment reminders from my dentist.
- Trash emails with "URGENT" in the subject from senders I don't recognize.
- Move invoices to the Finance folder.
- Archive all GitHub pull request review notifications.
Custom rules are evaluated alongside each incoming message. The AI decides whether the rule applies based on the sender and subject. Write rules conversationally. No special syntax, no query language, no regular expressions required.
The AI evaluates all enabled custom rules against each incoming message and applies the one it considers the best match. If no AI match is found, rules with a specific sender or domain constraint are checked in the order they appear in the Rules tab.
More specific rules perform better. "Archive newsletters" is vague enough that the AI will second-guess itself. "Archive weekly digest emails where the subject contains 'digest' or 'weekly update'" gives it something to work with.
The free plan supports up to 5 custom rules. Premail Pro removes this limit.
