What counts as a professional inbox?

• Gmail: any Google account whose address isn't @gmail.com or @googlemail.com. In practice that means Google Workspace.
• iCloud Mail: any address that isn't @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, such as iCloud Mail on your own domain.
• Outlook: any address that isn't on a consumer domain such as outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com. Regional versions like hotmail.co.uk count as personal.

The Accounts tab labels each account Personal or Professional, so you can see how Premail sorted it.

Can I connect a Microsoft 365 work or school account?

Not at the moment. The Outlook option signs in with personal Microsoft accounts only (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com), so a Microsoft 365 work or school account cannot complete the sign-in. Google Workspace accounts connect through the Gmail option. See Adding Email Accounts for what each provider supports.

How do you connect a work inbox?

The process is the same as connecting a personal inbox. In the Accounts tab, click "Add Account" and choose the provider. For Google Workspace, choose Gmail and sign in with your work address on Google's own sign-in page. For iCloud Mail on a custom domain, enter the address and an app-specific password.

On the free plan you can still connect a professional inbox, but it stays paused until you upgrade. Its account page says "This account is paused. Professional and work inboxes require Premail Pro." with an Upgrade to Pro button. Once your Pro license is active, the pause is lifted.

What should you do before connecting a work account?

A work mailbox usually belongs to your employer, not to you, and the rules about what software may connect to it are set by whoever administers it. Check your organisation's policy first. On Google Workspace, an administrator may need to approve third-party app access before the sign-in will complete at all.

It also helps to know where the mail goes. Premail runs on your computer and has no server that reads your mail. To classify a message, it sends the sender, subject, and body to the AI provider you chose. If your employer does not allow work mail to be sent to a cloud AI service, use a local model through Ollama, or Apple Intelligence on macOS, which keep everything on your machine. Should you start more conservatively on a work inbox?

• Leave the account in Learning mode for longer. A missed personal newsletter is an annoyance; a missed message from a colleague is not.
• Allowlist your own domain before going Live, so internal mail can never be filtered.
• Prefer archive over trash as the action while you are still calibrating.
• Raise confidence thresholds. Fewer actions taken with more certainty is the right trade on a work address.

Learning or Live mode, auto-unsubscribe, auto-reply, and contact sync are set per account, so a work inbox can stay in Learning mode while a personal one runs Live. Rules, thresholds, and sender lists are shared by every account. To treat work mail differently, write a custom rule that names your work address, such as "sent to you@company.com", so it only matches mail delivered to that inbox.
