Work & Professional Inboxes
Premail distinguishes between personal and professional email accounts. Personal accounts use well-known consumer domains: gmail.com, icloud.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com, and similar. Professional accounts use custom domains, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 business accounts.
Connecting personal inboxes is included in the free plan. Connecting professional or work inboxes requires Premail Pro.
What counts as a professional inbox?
- Any Gmail account that isn't @gmail.com or @googlemail.com (Google Workspace)
- Any Outlook account that isn't @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or @live.com (Microsoft 365 or Exchange)
- Any iCloud account that isn't @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com
How do you connect a work inbox?
The process is the same as connecting a personal inbox. In the Accounts tab, click "Add Account" and choose Gmail or Outlook. If the email address you sign in with uses a custom domain, Premail will detect it as professional and prompt you to upgrade if you're on the free plan.
What should you do before connecting a work account?
A work mailbox usually belongs to your employer, not to you, and the rules about what software may connect to it are set by whoever administers it. Check your organisation's policy first. On Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, an administrator may need to approve third-party app access before the sign-in will complete at all.
Should you start more conservatively on a work inbox?
- Leave the account in Learning mode for longer. A missed personal newsletter is an annoyance; a missed message from a colleague is not.
- Allowlist your own domain before going Live, so internal mail can never be filtered.
- Prefer archive over trash as the action while you are still calibrating.
- Raise confidence thresholds. Fewer actions taken with more certainty is the right trade on a work address.
Each account carries its own mode, thresholds, and rule overrides, so a cautious work setup and an aggressive personal one can run side by side.
