Premail v1.3.0: Briefings That Learn What to Skip
· Written by Matt Senter, creator of Premail
A briefing should list only what needs you. Some mail asks you to act every single time, though, and you never will: a moderator digest, a recurring survey, a report you don't own. Marking it done clears today's copy, and tomorrow's briefing brings it right back. Premail v1.3.0 lets you say so once.
No more like this
Every action item in a briefing now has a No more like this link next to Mark done. Press it and a small panel opens inside the item. Your AI provider writes a plain description of the kind of item, such as "Requests to review a Google Groups moderator spam report", and you can edit it before saving. What you leave in the box is the rule.
Saving hides that item and any other open items of the same kind, and future briefings leave that kind out. The mail itself still reaches your inbox as usual. Matching is by what an item asks you to do, never by who sent it, so a group address that also sends you real mail keeps working. Undo puts everything back.
A Hidden link beside your briefing tabs opens every kind you have saved, with search, Show again, and Edit. You can save up to 25. On-device models have a smaller working space, so they check new mail against your most recent kinds. The Briefings guide covers the details.
Action items from the newest reply only
A one-word reply or an emoji on a long thread used to surface a weeks-old question from the quoted history as a fresh action item, sometimes with a stale deadline. Briefings now look for new action items only in what the sender just wrote, and work out "Friday" or "next week" from the date the message arrived. A reply with no words and no attachment is skipped without calling your AI provider at all.
Simpler briefing cards
Dismiss did exactly what Mark done does, so it is gone. Explain moved to the bottom right corner of each item, the same place it sits on Activity cards, and every link shows a short description when you hold the pointer over it. Clicking the filled circle on a finished item reopens it.
The tray clock is quieter too. Clicking the tray icon clears it, since the menu it opens already shows every briefing's status, and a scheduled briefing with nothing that needs you no longer sets it.
No usage analytics
Earlier versions offered an optional, off-by-default setting that sent anonymous usage events. It has been removed. The desktop app now sends no usage analytics or crash reports, and updating deletes the anonymous identifier earlier versions stored on your computer. The privacy policy has the details.
Fixes and polish
Activity now says why an auto-reply was skipped, such as an earlier reply to the same sender or the daily limit, instead of leaving the row unexplained. Campaign event invitations are filed as Political when you classify with Apple Intelligence. Inbox Cleaner no longer loses messages that end up with no action. The sidebar has icons, and so do the tray menu and menu bar on macOS. Activity rows are easier to scan.
