Product Analytics That Starts With a Choice

Product analytics can help us see where setup is confusing and whether Premail reliably delivers value. It should not require handing over your inbox, identity, or credentials. That is why anonymous product analytics in the Premail desktop app is off by default and starts only after you choose to enable it.

What Premail can measure

When enabled, Premail records a small set of bounded events such as completing onboarding, connecting an account provider, creating a rule, enabling filtering, processing a message successfully or unsuccessfully, and reaching the first successful automated action. Counts and broad categories help reveal a broken step without revealing what was in your inbox.

The app can also record anonymous day 1, day 7, and day 30 return milestones. These aggregate signals answer product questions such as whether a setup improvement helps more people reach a working filter. They are not used to build advertising profiles.

What Premail never sends

Product analytics never includes email content, sender or recipient addresses, subject lines, message IDs, account IDs, rule text, custom domains, prompts, API keys, OAuth tokens, or license tokens. Event names and properties are restricted in code so an arbitrary field cannot quietly become analytics data later.

The anonymous installation identifier is separate from your mail accounts and purchase credentials. Premail also disables automatic screen, click, and page capture in the analytics service. Only the reviewed events the app sends explicitly are eligible for collection.

You stay in control

The switch lives under Your Plan in the app. Turning it off stops new product analytics, resets the analytics client, and deletes the local anonymous identifier and milestone state. Enabling it later creates a fresh anonymous identifier rather than reconnecting the new activity to the old one.

Website analytics has its own regional consent controls and is separate from this desktop setting. Choosing one does not silently enable the other. You can reopen website privacy choices from the footer at any time. Rejecting website analytics also records an opaque, one-way withdrawal so delayed purchase lifecycle events stop instead of relying forever on the choice made at checkout.

Why this design matters

Premail handles personal communications, so measurement should begin with restraint. We want enough information to fix onboarding, reliability, and activation problems, while keeping the sensitive material that makes your inbox yours out of the analytics pipeline entirely.
