Start at Login

Last updated

Premail only protects your inbox while it's running, so it's set to start automatically when you log in to your computer. This is on by default the first time you install Premail.

How do you turn Start at Login off or back on?

Open the menu-bar tray menu (click the Premail icon in your menu bar) and toggle Start at Login. A checkmark next to it means Premail will launch quietly in the background every time you sign in. Toggle it off if you'd rather start it yourself.

Premail launches straight to the menu bar, so enabling this won't pop a window open every time you log in. It just starts watching your mail.

What if it isn't launching at startup?

On macOS, Start at Login works by registering a LaunchAgent that points at Premail's application path. If you ran Premail once from a DMG, your Downloads folder, or any location outside /Applications before moving it, that registered path can go stale and the toggle will look on without actually launching Premail at login.

Premail repairs this automatically: open it once from /Applications while Start at Login is on, and it re-points the LaunchAgent at its current location on that launch. From then on it will start correctly at every login.
